The Intro to Racing program at Lime Rock Park offers a structured way to experience the 1.5 mile road course at speed. This program is designed for first-timers on Lime Rock Park's 1.5 mile circuit, blending classroom instruction with paced laps, live on-track coaching, and controlled open lapping. Participants will learn the fundamentals of safety, vehicle dynamics, racing lines, and flag communication, applying these immediately on track under the guidance of experienced Lime Rock instructors. All drivers must complete an Autocross Lapping Day or Track Tapas and receive instructor sign-off prior to participating in Intro to Racing. The program cost is $500 per driver. Participants must arrive before 12:00 PM; late arrivals are considered no-shows and are not eligible for a refund, though rescheduling may be an option at the program manager's discretion. All participants must complete the Intro to Racing Checklist and must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Reckless or unsafe behavior will result in removal from the program and potential blacklisting. A dress code is enforced: long pants and long-sleeve shirts are required, along with closed-toe, securely tied sneakers or racing shoes. Boots, dress shoes, loose jewelry, and watches are not permitted. Long hair must be tied up and fully contained within a helmet. Helmets are mandatory; Lime Rock Park helmets and head socks are available. Personal helmets must be SA2020 or newer; motorcycle (M-rated) helmets are not permitted, and Lime Rock Park reserves the right to deny the use of any helmet. Vehicles must pass a tech inspection and meet all safety requirements. Pick-up trucks (unless purpose-built for track use), most SUVs, vans, and convertibles without fixed roll bars (must pass broomstick test) are not permitted. GoPro-style cameras are allowed if securely mounted with a secondary retention strap and positioned outside the driver’s line of sight; drones are strictly prohibited. The trunk and interior of automobiles must be completely empty, with no loose items or spare tires unless securely mounted. Data systems or video must be securely mounted and tethered with a metal cable if mounted externally. Drivers in fully caged vehicles, track-prepped cars, or racecars must have a minimum 2-layer approved SFI or FIA driving suit, gloves, and shoes per track mandates; a SFI or FIA head and neck restraint device is also recommended. Track-prepped cars are defined as vehicles where the cockpit has been altered or modified to expose any part of the chassis or firewall. Seatbelts must be fully operational; 4-point harnesses are not allowed. Race seatbelts must not be older than 2 years (SFI) or 5 years (FIA). Failure to follow instructor direction, flag rules, or safety protocols may result in early dismissal without refund.
